Name: Martin Stevens Age: 25 Occupation: High school biology teacher after gaining his bachlor's degree in cellular biology Personality/Looks:Martin easily fits in the "tall & slender" crowd ringing in at 6'1". Clean shaven and usually dressed on the more proper or formal side, he really does give off that "teacher" vibe, though a nice one instead of the grouchy kind. More times than not, he'd laugh with his class's nonsense and carry on with the lesson instead of putting them in a foul mood by stopping "kids from being kids". And outside of the classroom, it was not a rare occurance for him to hang out with some of his older students for video games or sports. Other times, beers and laughs with friends were on the list. Background:A life-long resident of New Kingston, Martin's enjoyed a relatively easy live in the popular city. His parents were financially secure, he and his siblings enjoyed a healthy childhood; life was good for the most part. Hardship only struck went it was time for college, as his parents were of the opinion one should pay your own way into college. Martin's solution was military enlistement. Spend some time in basic training, stay in good physical shape, and have college paid for; a simple deal however difficult it might prove to be. Hard work paid off and Martin managed to get his bachlor's in cellular biology without having massive college bills over his head. Next, persistence paid off as he managed to land a teaching position at one of the local high schools, though having dated one of the other teachers for a spell probably didn't hurt either. He taught mostly older teenagers, which he prefered. It allowed him to cover more advanced pieces of biology and even touch college level with some of the prep-courses. Recent History:The day of the outbreak was a day Martin would never forget. Truthfully, no one could forget such a scene; such widespread massacre and horror happening all around you. It had been a normal day and Martin was teaching his 3rd period biology class when, without warning, screams were heard from outside the building. The all too familiar high-pitched scream a 12-yo girl generally makes at a spider, but there were more. The fire alarm went off throughout the school and the sprinkler system kicked on. "Time to go, guys. Let's move quick," he said to his class as he moved for the door. First one to step out, he froze in place for a split second, just long enough for one of the girls from his class to collide into him. Screams were echoing down the hallway along with the rumbling, shuffling sound of running kids. Behind the mass of frantically running children and teachers was...something. Blood dripped from its hands and jaw and it moved with a primal rage towards the nearest person it could reach. "GO!" Martin shouted to his class as he stepped out of the doorway towards the oncoming stampede. Doing his best to keep a gap open in the crowd for his class to leave their room, he saw more of these things flood into the hallway... The youngest were the first to die, their young, high-pitched screams of pain and agony cutting through the roar of chaos. Some were trampled by the older, larger children, others froze in terror at the blood and gore covered death coming at them, others yet collapsed in crying fits, mortified at the horrible death coming and not having the courage to fight. A couple teachers tried to fight back in the midst of this madness, grabbing the monsters with their bare hands and trying to tear them off the assaulted children. They lasted a bit longer, but their screams soon joined the blood-curdling symphony. Even with basic military training, including videos of graphic wounds, Martin wasn't ready for this. No one could have been. As the sea of children on that end of the hallway turned mostly to gore, blood, and zombies, Martin made a judgement call. Grabbing onto the row of lockers next to him, he yanked with everything his adrenaline pumped body could and it managed to fall. It pinned one of the monsters for the moment and slowed others as they stumbled. There were kids behind this, now doomed, but they were probably all doomed at this point. Distance was put between the living and the dead, that is until more of them poured out of an intersecting hallway. This happened again and again in the losing battle to leave the infested school, until the survivors were only a few. Some escaped through windows, some shoved straight through the hordes blocking hallways; no one knows if they survived or not. The bulk of the confirmed survivors made it to the roof of a neighboring building. A brick building with the only roof access being a ladder and a fire escape staircase; enough to hold out until the monsters decided they were too difficult of food for now. The few that had time to loot janitor's closests succeeded in pushing the things off the ladders with broomhandles. And now begin the battle of survival against untold numbers.
