I descend, mere mortals, from a cloud carried upon the backs of clowns - clowns who smiles will chill the souls of even the most hardy among ye. I descend from my pillar in the sky to bring you news and information about this roleplay.
Okay, seriousface now.
In the Days Ahead is a freeplay PbP - by freeplay I mean there's no ruleset. There are rules to be followed, but no specific game system we're using - let's call it, for the newbies among you, "interactive storytelling."
The RP is in a zombie apocalypse setting - it's been done to death, I know. It's clichéd, I know. But hell, that's because when done right, it's good. Now for me to do it right...
Hard rules:
1) Please, please, please, please keep the main thread nice and tidy language wise. I understand spelling mistakes. That's fine. I understand the occasional abbreviation or ancronym is necessary. What I don't understand is "hlo hw r u im gd." That isn't language. That's crucifixtion.
2) Post! I appreciate that time constrains activities and that sometimes it may take a few hours/days to reply to a post - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Always post when there's an opportunity - after all, this isn't a roleplay without the players.
3) I want players to interact as much as possible. If that means that we have 3 or 4 days with the characters discussing/arguing over their next move, so be it. It makes for slow gameplay, but anything that helps you understand your characters, and develop the relationships between them, is perfect. This isn't just about killing zombies, it's about human beings in a zombie apocalypse. If I do feel that something is going on for a little too long, it's up to me to press you to continue.
4) Try to stay in character as much as you can. There will of course be an out of character thread, but when posting in the main/side threads that are IC, stick to it. That'll probably come natural.
5) If you become disillusioned by the roleplay, or simply have to discontinue for any reason, let me know. This gives me ample opportunity to deal with your character - have them meet some kind of end, so we don't have loose characters running around.
6) This is more personal preference than a rule, really. When posting your character bios, please try to make them as detailed as is reasonable. A backstory would be great - especially related to how they got to the city. It helps me, and I'm sure if you consider your characters well enough, it'll be helpful to you too.
7) Regarding character creation: You are not gods. You are ordinary people caught in a near hopeless situation. You're not navy SEALS, armed to the teeth on an undercover mission. You're not James Bond. You are an average Joe/Jane who is lucky enough to have survived this long. As such, I'm restricting professions - not too much, but these things are specifically disallowed:
- Soldier - Anything above a normal police officer (so no SWAT members or anything.)
8) Please stay. *Pines at the door as you all walk out and leave me here by myself, crying.* You wouldn't do this to me if I was a panda. =[ In all seriousness though, if you find yourself with a lack of inspiration or creativity, give it a chance. Give me a chance, for that matter - this is my first time in a very long time DMing something, so don't expect the very best of me.
9) Last, but certainly not least, HAVE FUN. I can't stress this enough. Whilst I consider roleplaying to be a relatively serious thing to undertake, it is, essentially, a game. It should be treated as one - as in, enjoy it.
That's all folks! I've rounded up the people who said they were interested and pointed them here, so I expect to see character bios going up soon.
Thanks -Rescindment-
