Okay...here's the jest of what characters would know going into this. This should help give you ideas of what kinds of characters are logical and how they'd tie into this. Also help with backstory creation. The Cormyrian lands are in a state of disarray, struggling to hold their country together amidst the utter mayhem that has befallen them. To quote the FRCS directly, "Recently challenged by treacherous noble families, armies of goblins and orcs, famine, a marauding ancient red dragon, and the death of it's beloved monarch, Cormyr is now struggling to maintain it's holdings. With one of its cities in ruins and great numbers of evil humanoids still roaming the countryside, this nation is in need of resourceful individuals willing to defend the crown and confront it's enemies" As stated above...the Cormyrian king is dead and his top advisor is currently holding the throne. I'd count this as fairly well known info considering it is a king we're talking about and Cormyr is a widely known location. What has brought this merry band of misfits together...is a tournament. The advisor has hosted a tournament within the capital city despite the war and dangers. The tournament holds competitions for every type of warrior, from jousting, to swordplay, to magical tricks. Much of the "competition" is active members of the Purple Dragons (Cormyr's army). The tournament is open to all able-bodied people to join and has been moderately advertised in Cormyr and it's surrounding countries. A few select individuals have been sent specific requests to join the tournament but what exactly that request entails will be private to the person it is being sent to. Basically...this is my allowance for all types of characters. If you want to play something "normal" that wouldn't stick out and be known on a large scale...you just entered yourself in the tournament and was talked to afterwards. If you're playing something very unusual *cough* giant bug *cough*, you likely would have made a name for yourself and be known by the advisor for your skill and/or reputation. Or even more simply...you just have to find a reason why your concept would travel to Cormyr and enter itself into a tournament lol Yes, I'm allowing evil characters but you'll have to be subtle ones, the "main goal" of the campaign is good-inclined. But inter-party struggles are always interesting. Anything from the CN to LG range should work comfortably as far as the campaign is concerned. Getting along with your own party will be something different As always, if you're thinking of something unique or know the setting well, fire an idea my way. Already had one awesome idea pop up
