This area is where we store RP that is unrelated (in time) to the current plot thread. All interractions here are in chacater (IC) and DO have an effect on the game itself, should anything affecting the game happen. What has to be remembered though is that the side stage is for threads that move outside the storylines choronological continuum. Meaning that a converstaion between characters/quests can take two minutes here, while in the meantime the game has moved two months in the plot thread, and the whole exchange has taken three months of real-time posting.
Examples (but not the only things) that might show up in this forum is:
1: Converstaions between characters that are too long to be put in the plot threads but that nevertheless make for great RP and explorations of character interraction. Such as the dark elf asking about the dwarfs past, or the human discussing spritual matters with the elf. Things like that. These threads are DM-hands off zone unless a player starts making things up and influencing the game ("Yeah I totaly won a million gold on the lottery one saturday morning") or there is a need for an NPC.
2: Small pieces about characters that help players define their own character too themselves. Such as detailing the dreams of a drunken dwarf. Or the same dwarf speaking to himself about the groups mission as he sits guard at the campfire at night. These kinds of threads are mostly personal space for those who have a creative itch to scratch or who want to explore their characters by themselves for a bit. Of course players are still free to join such thread (the elf wakes up and curses at the dwarf for not keeping quiet as he sits guard), but mostly these are "flavour" texts that help define the playres in a group. For those of you who played with me in the Veritgos campaign, you know what I'm talking about.
3: DM-led quests/happenings from the players past. This is where I will be butting in the most. This is a place where I can explore and flesh out parts of your characters for fun and for use later in the campaign, such as playing out the first orc-hunt that the dwarf is brought along for, or snippets out of the religious schooling for the Paladin.
These quests differ from the main plot in that they are non-lethal. No matter how badly the dwarf screws up he can't get killed by the orcs, though he will certainly suffer consequences for being the sole survivor who came limping back -naked- to the hold. And a dark elf managing to call the clan-leaders daughter a "Orc who got hit with the ugly stick at birth" will have some social problems later on. Though if he instead manages to seduce her during the grand ball he will have some strong benefits from it later on.
As such these quests serve the purpose of both fleshing out a character, and to shape said characters current status in game.
I'm well aware that we all have schedules, so as much as side-stage-RP is compulsory (you will be expected to answer the posts in any DM-thread containing you) they do not have a timeframe. If you feel that you don't have time to post in this forum, ignore it and post in the main thread instead. The top one priority is to keep the plot rolling. This forum is a side stage and is not meant to distract from the main story going in.
