Seeing that we will now have 2 druids, I was almost tempted to scrap my ranger and build a tank. But then I thought this could actually work really well story wise! So I'll be sticking to my ranger. Never know when we'll need some expert tracking! Besides I can always just use two dwarven war-axes...

Actually, dwarven waraxe and a handaxe would be far better, since handaxes count as light weapons. Two dwarven waraxes would be (with a 16STR at level 3) +2/+2...whereas dwarven waraxe and handaxe would be +4/+4

Or go with throwing axes.

Less damage, yes, but by using an identical weapon in each hand you can benefit both with one feat.

Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus (throwing Axe), Two Weapon Fighting (Free) and when you can get it, Quick Draw.

Then go more high dex than high strength and rain axes upon your enemies

You can even try to persuade Shiv to let you trade in a rangers usual proficiency with bows for an extra throwing-axe-related feat.

Damn dwarves and their shit dexterity! But regardless I think I'm going the throwing axe route.

I've decided to take a level in fighter, so I can afford to take quickdraw. With the Ranged route, I can sling two axes a round (if I want) and still carry a shield.

I could do better numbers wise taking other routes, but I kind of like this idea.

It's been a busy morning (vacation?) but I'll finish him today, Shiv.

Good, no hurries though. I just found out I'll be extra busy for ten days or so (a course I'm taking started up a week earlier than expected), hopefully this will not impeede my posting abilities. Though I might be a bit slowed for a bit.

Also I have no qualms about giving you axe proficiency instead of bows. The concept for the dwarves was built (in part) from the HoMMV-game, and those ones use harpoons

Well, if you are carrying a shield, do you even want to be a ranger at all?

I am really liking the groups mix and having a Dwarven Ranger would perfectly fit with convincing Bael and Nu to join a party of adventurers. I personaly think I like the dwarven axe and throwing axe mix of melee and range. Shiv, Palm and I should have our characters to you soon, it has been a rough weekend and we were unable to complete them. I am still exploring this site and enjoy the feel of it so far. Out of curiosity is ths party going to have a magic user or cleric? Or will Palm and I be the healers in the party?

Cool. It's a good thing, cause I totally misread the class ability as ranged... not archery. Phew!

Even though the range of a thrown axe is abysmal, I still would prefer Rapid Shot (To go with my learned Quickdraw) at 2nd level. I think after a lot of practice your aim at a distance would get better, and that could justify a Far Shot at 6th.

And that's far enough away that we(you) dont really need to worry about after that. At least for now.

Absolutely!

He's an orc-hunter, and figures he'd best be prepared when he finds his prey. He's more of a tracker... than say, sneaker.

Oh I keep meaning to ask, I noticed Racer's Dark Elf is 72 years old which in 3.5 rules would be a child by Elven standards or do your races have a different age concept. I set Bael's age at 154 (female) and Nu's age at 152 (male) going off of the age of adulthood being 110 and rolling 10d6 for Druid training. Thank you for any assistance.

Shiv will probably give you the correct answer Coyote, but I'm gonna jump in and take a stab at it.

Since the Dark Elves have lived in harsher environments it's caused them to grow up faster than the other elves simply to survive.

Or maybe Racer just wanted to play a childish elf.

It could go either way, imo.

It's due to me generally disliking the thought of anyone playing anything with 100+ years of experience. I mean seriously, imagine how much you'd learn in a hundred years time.

So if possible bump you ages down by half or so. Though the only reason for this is "because I say so".

As much as the elves live unnaturally long, this is a more medeival-style D&D then the one in faerun. So even though elves CAN become quite old only the high elves (not a playable race...yet) are the only ones who live comfortable enough lives to reach such age. The oldest living dark elves and Sylvans are somewhere between 300 and 400 years. So what Weasel says its true. Elves grow up faster since they arn't coddled the same way here. Most elves tend to die off from disease/war/famine/knife-in-eye-syndrome, long before reaching their 300th birthday.

It's a brutal world.

My skills will show the full Armor Check Penalty for using a shield, but I am curious about something. (And always have been about this...)

What if the shield is strapped to a characters back? You could make an argument for both sides. Having a shield strapped to your back would still make it tougher to hide, jump, move silently...

... but wouldn't a backpack as well? And there's no Backpack Check Penalty.

I'm not asking for some sort of ruling here (most of my skills will be weak regardless)... just curious.
