Right...so...trainwreck.
This is a D&D setting that I used during my exchange studies in Japan. I've done some small modifications to it just to get it working for a PbP-format, and I thought I'd try my hand at DMing. The name "Trainwreck" comes from the fact that I didn't have a name for anything and my words to RacerXonclar were "lets get this trainwreck on the tracks".
Many, many things in this setting have been gratiously ripped from different games, settings, music and anything else I can get my thieving hand on. If you see things I've stolen. Good for you. It's impolite to point it out
First up, some basics.
0: I typo a lot. Get used to it.
1: We're using the D&D 3.5 ruleset. The setting, races, maps etc are all made by me. The setting is in no sense "complete". It was made to run with a 5 man group of RP-noobs and I gave them only enough for them to work with and enjoy. If you have questions, post them in the appropriate thread and I'll try to answer them as soon as possible.
2: We're not using ANY suplementary books beyond the basic players guide (For now). I don't know the prestige classes etc, so I'd rather avoid them for the fear of a player making a char that has abilities beyond what I understand/what is fitting. With time you might convince me to let you use a prastige class, but we're making basic careers for starting chars.
3: Starting levels will be between 2-3. So I guess prestige classes won't be a problem. Everyone is making some sort of "seasoned" adventurer. Meaning you've guarded a few caravans, raided a tomb or two, or partaken in a minor war/skirmish. Something to get the skin of your nose.
4: All races listed will be allowed, all classes and social standings. If you want some sort of special background I'm open for suggestions. In my last game I had a dark elven noble who started out with roughly ten times as much gold as the others, with no real drawbacks. As such I prefer to let players try their hands at "strange" chars if they want to. Life isn't equal, and neither is char creation. If you are right now considering what kind of char wold give you an "edge" please leve this game. Some races have restictions on what classes they can play, these will be detailed later.
5: This article is recommended reading.
www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/checkfortraps/8102-Check-for-Traps-The-Challenge-of-CampaigningI'm not going to be a total hardass on this of course. But I view Roleplaying a serious hobby, so please try to stay convicted to the game, even when inspiration is lackluster or missing.
6:The first adventure starts out in the northern dwarven lands. If you join at a later point I can work you in, but please have a reason for traveling there, or at least don't have a reason to NOT be there. (double negatives, yay!)
7: Combat will be handled by me. I'm not yet sure what is the most smooth way of handling it, so I'm thinking of trying more than one method. Either as singular rounds or with me getting general instructions and playing out several rounds by myself.
8: Holding up the game by having two chars talk about what kind of ale they like or by letting them play the blame game about why the last adventure didn't go well isn't condoned. It's endorsed. As much as the game needs flow and progression small tidbits that let you understand your char better are always welcome and encouraged. I'd much rather have a slow game with lots of PC-PC interraction that gives well rounded chars than a fast paced game about stat-piles killing things and taking their stuff.
9:When posting, even if you are feeling at a complete lack of ideas or energy, simply give ten seconds to think about the following:
- What is your characters current mood?
- What kind of voice is she/he using)
- How does the character move when he speaks?
Standing completely still like a robot is more worthy of note than small movements. So if you find yourslef writing one-liner respones without tone, movement or inflection, consider taht your char is probably looking someone with botox injected in every part of their body, speaking thorugh a computer.
10: The setting is pretty low-magic. Potions and low-level spells are commonplace, as are trinkets. But anything beyond +1 swords or items with lvl 1/2 spells in them are quite~or very rare.
